  2. When Does It Pay to Leave the Cloud?

The usual rule says owned servers only pay off above 60–80% utilisation. A financial model calibrated to 2026 prices puts the line nearer 52%, and finds most established firms paying for flexibility they never use.

About

I'm a software engineer with twelve years in the field. I lead AI and machine learning at a cloud-storage company, where my team builds the kind of photo intelligence you'd expect from a phone maker, at consumer scale. Outside work I read and write about economics.

Before that I studied law and then finance.

I live in Sofia, Bulgaria, and work in English, French and Bulgarian.

Work with me

I take on a small amount of advisory work for companies putting machine learning into consumer products or deciding what AI infrastructure to own versus rent. If that's you, write to me.
